In Zambia, surgically treatable diseases are not as important as the great killers of our people- Malaria, Tuberculosis, HIV/AIDS and Malnutrition.Like surveys in many countries in sub-Saharan Africa have shown, a significant number of people die from injuries sustained in falls, accidents and violence. There are a significant number of deaths resulting from conditions that would be amenable to surgery. It was evident that this unmet need meant that there were many unnecessary deaths from cerebral injuries, strangulated hernias and obstetric disasters. |

Northern Province as the only specialist
surgeon for many years prior to his stint as a Director at the Central Board of
Health and was ready to go back to his
beloved province when events conspired
to make him take up his current posting
in Luanshya.
